Construction Update
August 13, 2009
Access to the third and fourth floor in the Southeast Wing will be restricted beginning Monday. Construction crews will be on site to install new lighting and ceiling tiles. Patients in that area have been given room reassignments. ATTENTION: When escorting patients and visitors to the SE Rec Room, please use the exterior stairwell as the regular access route will be blocked.
State Audit
November 9, 2008
The Department of Mental Health will be conducting an internal audit of the available beds at Saint Dympna Hospital. Patient overcrowding is an ongoing concern for state officials. Available space at the hospital could be used to absorb overflow from state penitentiaries. UPDATE: This audit will now be conducted via phone interviews with key department staff members.
Ground Breaking
September 27, 2008
Ground was broken yesterday at the site for a proposed expansion of the staff dormitories. Current housing for hospital staff will be replaced by the new two-story structure. Construction is set to begin at the end of the year and scheduled for a Summer 2010 completion.
Documentary Film Crew
March 19, 2008
A documentary film crew has been granted special permission to have restricted access to limited parts of the hospital. The crew will be conducting interviews with doctors and support staff. As part of Saint Dympna's ongoing mission to promote the fair depiction of mental illness, this documentary will be used to show the complexities surrounding mental health treatment.
